Pharmacy

Pharmacy is the branch of the health sciences dealing with the preparation, dispensing, and proper utilization of drugs. The goal of pharmacy is the development of medications that cure, prevent, or ease the symptoms of disease. Pharmacists are the link between the science of pharmacology and the patient. Pharmacists read and interpret prescriptions for physicians, then prepare and dispense the medications. They provide information about the uses, effects, and interactions of medicines. Pharmacists also help customers in choosing nonprescription medicines and health products and may counsel a customer to seek the advice and treatment of a physician, dentist, or other health practitioner. Pharmacy personnel are important members of a rapidly expanding health care field. The career options are very broad. Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians may work in community pharmacies, hospitals, industries, colleges of schools of pharmacy, or public health facilities.
