Public Health

Public Health is the science and practice of protecting the health and welfare of all people by preventing and controlling disease. Public health professionals protect our water and food supplies, control the spread of disease such as AIDS and measles, and provide the government and public with essential information on health threats. Public health professionals are dedicated to educating people about protecting their health. There are many rewarding careers in public health, ranging from pure research to direct public education. In addition, nurses, doctors, health administrators, and other personnel may choose to specialize and practice in public health settings. For example, public health nursing is a specialty in the nursing profession (see nursing profession section). Health care administration is also covered in its own section.
